Are Calico Cats Always Female?

I learned about Calico cats (Tri-colored or Multi-colored cats) being most often than not female from Dr. Bido.

More about Calico cats from About.com

What's for Dinner?

Lay-Pi

Whiskers on Kittens

Engki aka Engkantada (Fairy)
Picked up from Blumentritt St. corner Espana when he was around 1 month old.
He was wrapped in 3 plastic bags when I saw him! Poor kitty!
He was sooo white that my mother said he's like an "engkantada" (fairy).
He looked like Disney's Marie of "The Aristocats"when he was small.
We thought he was a she.
He actually developed allergies on his hind legs caused by his pee. As a kitten, he didn't know how to pee properly and so he would always get his entire hind legs wet whenever he peed which caused the allergies.
A cat with sensitive skin!

Monchi aka Monchichi aka Mini-nova aka Little Chom-Chom
Picked up from the doorstep of the uninhabited apartment 3 doors away from our place.
Looks like a Monchichi.
Best friend of Engki.

Lay-Pi aka Pilay (Limp) aka Lycopene
Picked up from St. Luke's Medical Hospital near Delifrance.
Her hind legs are thin and limping (looks as if she has poliomyelitis) but she can run as fast as any other kitten.

Veterinarians in Metro Manila

For spaying and neutering, I bring my cats to
Dr. Eleazar Bido
Bido Veterinary Clinic
102-D Kamuning Road, Quezon City
In between 11th Jamboree St. and Edsa
It's on your left if you're coming from Edsa
+632 4133521
+639173290601

Spaying: P1,000
Neutering: P600

What I like with Dr. Bido is that you can leave your cats for spaying/neutering and just come back for them the next day WITHOUT confinement fees.

Other veterinarians I've tried

Dr. Rey C. Del Napoles
Vets On The Block
#36 Champaca St. Roxas District, Quezon City 1103
If you're coming from Welcome Rotonda, turn right on Sct. Chuatoco (Pegasus) from Quezon Avenue
then turn right again to Champaca St.
The clinic is just 2 blocks away from Sct. Chuatoco

The clinic is very near our place and is also on the way to work.
Dr. Rey is a member of the Animal Welfare Coalition, a past president if I'm not mistaken, and he's more than willing to give you tips on how to care for feral cats.

I only brought my cats to Animal House when they used to accept cats which were endorsed by CARA for spaying/neutering. Spaying, if endorsed by CARA cost P500, while neutering cost P350. When CARA opened their own clinic in Mandaluyong, Animal House stopped accepting cats endorsed by CARA.
Which gave me a really bad impression of them. They are only in the pet business for money, they don't really care much about animal welfare.

The one time I brought a sick cat to them was also disappointing. I brought the cat in the morning, they took some blood sample, then told me to come back when the blood test results are available. They called me that afternoon to tell me that the sample taken was not good and that I have to bring the cat back for another extraction. When the results came out, the vet prescribed some medicines and told me to bring the cat back after 2 weeks. I brought the cat back after 2 weeks and the same cycle happened, they again got some blood sample and told me to come back when the results are out. The results came out, medicines were prescribed and I was told to come back after 2 weeks. Unfortunately, the cat passed on before the 2 weeks. When the 2 weeks were up, they called to tell me to bring the cat to the clinic for a check-up, and all I could tell them was the cat has already gone home.

The only thing I liked about Animal House is Dr. Berna. She's very nice and accommodating and would take the time to talk to you and explain the condition of the patient.

Another thing that I don't like about Animal House is their business hours. They open at 9:00AM and closes at 6:00PM. Which means I have to pick-up my cat by 6:00PM but I don't get off work until 7:00PM which means I have to file for a half-day leave just to get my cat.

I've heard a lot of rave reviews about this clinic but I wasn't too happy with my experience with them. I brought my cat with a tumor on his neck to them and they took a sample from the growth for a biopsy. They told me to come back when the biopsy result come out which normally takes 11 days After several weeks of follow-up, the biopsy result still hasn't come out. After almost a month, they told me that the sample they got was not good and that they have to get a new sample. And so I brought my poor cat back to the clinic in Mandaluyong for another extraction. Unfortunately, my cat passed away at home after 5 days. And I was too grieved that I didn't bother to ask them about the biopsy anymore. What took the cake was a few days ago, a little more than a month when my cat passed on, VIP called and told us that the growth was malignant. Tell me something I didn't know. I think they have to seriously consider changing the laboratory where they bring their biopsy cases. Currently, they use the services of a doctor at the Philippine Children's Medical Hospital.

What I like about the clinic though is that it's a one-stop shop. They have their own laboratory (except for biopsy) and x-ray machine. Unlike in other clinics (like Animal House) wherein you bring your pet one day, the vet will get a blood sample and then ask you to come back when the results are available.
